Iran has called on the United States to ensure Israel immediately ceases its military operations in Lebanon and withdraws its forces, citing a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington.

Speaking during an official visit to Baghdad, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that an Israeli withdrawal from Lebanon is a mandatory condition under the agreement and fundamental to the success of any regional accord.

Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baqai reiterated the demand, telling journalists on Sunday that the US must take all necessary actions to stop Israeli military actions in Lebanon. Referring to what was called the ‘Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding,’ the spokesperson said a primary demand for Iran is the end of Israeli operations in Lebanon.

He emphasised that full implementation of the MoU’s first clause, requiring an end to Israeli attacks and a complete withdrawal from occupied Lebanese territories, is a prerequisite for sustainable stability in the region. Mr. Baqai also affirmed Iran’s policy of supporting Lebanon’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity in line with the UN Charter and international law.
