Prime Minister, Interior Minister Honor Police Martyrs on National Day

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Police Martyrs' Day, paid heartfelt tribute to police officers who sacrificed their lives for the nation. He lauded their unwavering commitment in the fight against terrorism, extremism, and crime, emphasizing their critical role in maintaining peace and protecting citizens. The Prime Minister reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring the welfare of martyrs' families, providing quality education, healthcare, and other essential facilities. Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also honored the martyrs, describing their sacrifices as a 'bright chapter' in national history and calling them 'true heroes' whose contributions to peace and order are commendable.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan on Tuesday paid tribute to police martyrs at a ceremony marking Youm-e-Shuhada-e-Police at the Motorway Police Headquarters. He honoured the sacrifices of fallen police heroes and announced new safety measures for patrolling personnel. Khan laid a floral wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial and offered Fateha for the fallen personnel, describing August 4 as a significant day in the country’s history. He noted that the sacrifices of police martyrs, including 59 officers of the Motorway Police, would always be remembered, and mentioned Safwat Ghayoor as a symbol of courage and commitment. To improve the safety of motorway patrol officers, Minister Khan announced the establishment of modern police stations, dedicated parking areas, and emergency ambulance services near toll plazas. He also highlighted that the National Highway Authority’s (NHA) revenue increased from Rs66 billion in 2024 to over Rs127 billion in 2026, enabling it to finance major infrastructure projects through indigenous resources. The minister further outlined a nationwide programme of motorway and highway expansion across Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, including the Murree Expressway extension to Muzaffarabad and the MNJC Motorway as an alternative route to the Karakoram Highway.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif reiterated her tribute to police martyrs on Police Martyrs’ Day, emphasizing their sacrifices for peace and security. She noted that Lahore has emerged as one of the safer cities, outperforming several developed cities in the Numbeo Crime and Safety Index, thanks to police sacrifices and the Safe City Project. The Chief Minister also stated that the government is equipping the Punjab Police with advanced communication systems, bulletproof vehicles, and other essential resources to enhance operational capacity, leading to secure riverine areas.

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif paid glowing tribute to the police martyrs who laid down their lives for the country and the nation, and saluted the patience and resilience of their families on the occasion of Police Martyrs’ Day. In her message, the chief minister said the sacrifices rendered by the Punjab Police in the fight against terrorism, extremism and crime were unforgettable. She added that the Punjab government was fulfilling its responsibility towards the welfare and care of the families of police martyrs in the best possible manner, including providing quality education, healthcare, housing and other essential facilities to their children. Maryam Nawaz highlighted that, alongside the Safe City Project, the sacrifices of police martyrs had played a pivotal role in making Lahore one of the world’s safer cities, surpassing several developed cities in the Numbeo Crime and Safety Index. She also stated that the Punjab Police were being equipped with modern weapons, state-of-the-art protective and communication equipment, bullet proof vehicles and other essential resources. The chief minister observed that the sacrifices of police martyrs had borne fruit, adding that the riverine (Katcha) areas are now not only secure but also progressing on the path of development.

On Police Martyrs' Day, the President and Prime Minister have also paid tribute to the brave police officers who sacrificed their lives.
