Story so far

The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz remains uncertain due to ongoing security incidents and a US naval blockade. Britain’s maritime security agency reported explosions heard by an oil tanker captain. The US Central Command continues to enforce its blockade, having redirected, disabled, and boarded commercial vessels. Iranian media states that easing tensions depends on the US ending the blockade. Unconfirmed reports suggest a temporary Iran-Oman agreement for transit routes, pending Iranian approval. Pakistan is actively engaged in defusing the stand-off and examining a Saudi-led multinational maritime coalition. The situation presents challenges for the US administration, with rising fuel prices and public opposition, while US officials insist the waterway must remain free. Separately, Oman faces an environmental threat from an oil leak by a Russian shadow fleet tanker.
