Heavy rain lashes Lahore; CM Maryam Nawaz orders high alert

Heavy rain lashed various parts of Lahore on Saturday, prompting Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to place all relevant departments on high alert to manage the situation.

The highest rainfall was recorded in Nishtar Town at 48.5 mm. The downpour led to at least one incident in Wapda Town where a wall collapsed on a rickshaw, injuring two people, one of whom was taken to Jinnah Hospital.

In response, the chief minister directed authorities to ensure the immediate drainage of rainwater and ordered continuous supervision of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) operations. She emphasized that water should not be allowed to accumulate in urban areas and that all manholes must be properly covered.

CM Maryam also instructed officials to implement comprehensive safety measures, including special monitoring of dilapidated buildings and ensuring safety at construction sites to prevent accidents. WASA Managing Director Ghufran Ahmed and Lahore Deputy Commissioner Captain (R) Muhammad Ali Ijaz visited several low-lying areas to personally monitor the drainage operations, confirming that all disposal stations were running at full capacity.
