Government officially announces public holidays for Eid-ul-Adha
The federal government has officially announced a three-day public holiday across the country to mark Eid-ul-Adha. According to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the holidays will commence on Tuesday, May 26, and conclude on Thursday, May 28. The declaration was made following approval from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The announcement aligns with the decision of the Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, which declared that Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on Wednesday, May 27. The date was determined after the Zilhaj moon was successfully sighted on Sunday evening.
The central moon-sighting committee received testimonies from various parts of the country, including Karachi and other cities in Sindh, as well as Mardan, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar, confirming the start of the Islamic month of Zilhaj.
Eid-ul-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, is celebrated on the 10th of Zilhaj and marks the culmination of the annual Haj pilgrimage. It has also been reported that Saudi Arabia is set to mark the first day of Eid-ul-Adha on the same day, May 27.
