Police in Lahore have arrested four suspects in connection with the alleged kidnapping, extortion, and assault of two foreign women, with new details suggesting the incident stemmed from a dispute over cryptocurrency investments.
According to preliminary findings, the victims and the main accused, Raza Dar, were previously connected through business dealings. The women were reportedly lured to Pakistan with promises of high returns on crypto investments. They arrived in Lahore on June 29 and were scheduled to depart on July 5.
Reports state that before their planned departure, one of the suspects took the women to a location in the Defence area, where other associates were present. The suspects then allegedly demanded approximately $1.5 million, which they claimed was related to returns on cryptocurrency investments.
Police initiated action after receiving an emergency call from the father of one of the victims, who was abroad. Using Safe City cameras and technical surveillance, authorities located and recovered both women within hours. Four suspects were taken into custody.
Officials confirmed that the victims have undergone medical examinations, and statements from the arrested suspects have been recorded. The accused are expected to be produced before a magistrate for physical remand as the investigation continues. Authorities added that raids are underway to apprehend any other individuals involved.
