Qatar’s energy minister has confirmed that a blast at the Ras Laffan gas hub on Sunday was an accident and not an act of sabotage. In an official statement, Minister Saad al-Kaabi announced the death of 13 individuals, all identified as Indian and Pakistani nationals. An additional 66 people were injured but are reported to be in non-life-threatening condition.

The explosion occurred during start-up operations at the Barzan local gas supply facility. Minister al-Kaabi assured that the incident would not impact Qatar’s energy exports or local supply and had no environmental impact. The fire has since been brought under control.
