New reports indicate that Sialkot is now underwater, with an embankment breaching and floodwater entering homes. In Kasur, surrounding areas have become submerged due to heavy rainfall. Additionally, power supply in Lahore has been disrupted.

Monsoon rains accompanied by strong winds lashed Lahore and parts of Punjab on Sunday, disrupting routine life by causing urban flooding, power shutdowns and traffic jams.

The rains and strong winds provided much-needed relief to citizens by causing a decrease in daytime temperatures.

Experts have forecast the monsoon spell to continue intermittently on Sunday evening and night, as well as on Monday.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents are penetrating upper and eastern parts of Pakistan. A shallow trough of westerly wave also prevails over northern and western parts of the country, with a seasonal low-pressure area lying over northeast Balochistan.

Mainly muggy weather is expected in most parts of Punjab on Sunday evening and night, and on Monday. More intermittent rains are expected in Murree, Galiyat, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sheikhupura, Bahawalnagar and Jhelum.

Lahore’s daytime temperatures are expected to remain between 30°C and 32°C on Monday and between 29°C and 31°C on Tuesday.

Over the past 24 hours, intermittent rains with isolated heavy downpours occurred in Lahore and parts of Punjab. Rainfall recorded includes Lahore Airport 114mm, Khana 19mm, Head Office WASA, Gulberg, Tajpura 06mm, Mannawan 05mm, Jail Road, Shadi Pura 03mm, Lakshmi Chowk, Nishtar Town 01mm. Other areas saw Kasur 40mm, Islamabad (Saidpur 31mm, Bokra, Zero Point 01mm), Faisalabad (Madina Town 13mm, Dogar Basti 12mm, Gulistan Colony 07mm, Allama Iqbal Colony 06mm), Chakwal 11mm, Murree 10mm, Multan Airport 05mm, Sialkot (City), Okara, Multan City 01mm.

Lahore recorded a maximum temperature of 31°C with morning humidity at 92 per cent.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a high alert for Lahore as monsoon rains continue to lash the city.
