Drug Suspect Escapes from Police Custody at Karachi Hospital

KARACHI: A drug suspect who escaped from police custody at Sindh Services Hospital three days ago remains at large, police confirmed on Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Umair, had been arrested by Super Market police in the Liaquatabad area for possession of crystal meth. After securing a two-day physical remand from the court, a police team took him to the hospital to deposit the seized narcotics as evidence.

According to police officials, while the officers went inside the hospital, Umair was left in the police van. He managed to slip out of his handcuffs and flee the scene.

In a further complication, the two police constables assigned to guard the suspect, Anwar Ali and Owais, have also been reported as missing from duty. An Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Mumtaz, along with the two constables, has been suspended, and a departmental inquiry into the incident has been initiated.
