Drug Case Probe Uncovers Police Corruption, Stirs Political Debate

An investigation into the Anmol and Pinky drug trafficking case has widened to uncover a large online network and alleged police complicity, sparking a significant political debate.

Former Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf appeared before a parliamentary committee where he strongly denied any involvement in the matter. He suggested that the accused was pressured to name him in an effort to divert attention from the case. In response to the allegations, lawmakers have called for the implementation of regulations on social media to prevent character assassination until a crime is proven.

The operational side of the probe has identified 70 online drug dealers operating in Karachi. This discovery has so far led to the arrest of 17 delivery riders connected to the network.

In a related crackdown on official corruption, 20 police officials in Karachi’s District South have been transferred for their involvement in illegal activities. Separately, a senior Punjab Police officer was forcibly retired for allegedly patronizing drug gangs.
