Story so far

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the 'Apni Chhat Mehfooz Chhat' (My Roof, Safe Roof) program, an initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to citizens for securing and strengthening their homes. This scheme is part of the broader 'Apna Ghar' (My Home) program.

Under the 'Apni Chhat Mehfooz Chhat' program, eligible individuals can receive an interest-free loan of up to five lakh rupees (PKR 500,000) to ensure the safety of their roofs and walls. The loan is repayable over a period of nine years, with a three-month grace period before the commencement of monthly installments, which will be approximately PKR 4,700. The Punjab government will bear the costs of interest and any processing fees associated with these loans.

Chief Minister Nawaz stated that the motivation behind this scheme stems from past incidents of roof collapses causing fatalities, including children, particularly during harsh weather conditions. She emphasized that a home is not merely a structure of bricks and cement but a safe haven for families. The 'Apni Chhat Apna Ghar' program has already facilitated homes for 200,000 families in Punjab, with 178,000 families having already moved into their new residences.
