CII Rules Visual Depictions of Prophets, Sacred Figures Impermissible
The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Wednesday declared that the publication of images, visual representations, or any content depicting prophets and other sacred personalities is impermissible under Islamic law.
In a resolution passed during a meeting chaired by Dr. Raghib Hussain Naeemi, the council stated that such material should be completely avoided to preserve the sanctity and dignity of these figures.
The CII welcomed a notice issued by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on the matter, describing it as a positive step, and called for legal action against those who publish or broadcast such content.
The council also recommended that media organisations establish effective pre-publication screening mechanisms and strengthen editorial oversight for content involving religious matters. It further emphasised that a responsible balance must be maintained between freedom of expression and respect for religious sensitivities.
The meeting also approved several other decisions relating to legal and public interest matters, the council noted.
