However, at 9:21pm, air traffic controllers observed the aircraft rapidly descending and making a sharp change in heading on radar. Subsequently, both radar contact and communication were lost.
There were five crew members on board the aircraft. Following the incident, the Rescue Coordination Centre was activated, and a coordinated search and rescue operation was launched at sea involving various agencies to locate the missing aircraft.
Flight-tracking service FlightRadar indicated a loss of altitude, followed by a climb, and then a second, sudden loss of altitude. The final received data point from the aircraft was at 1,100 feet Above Mean Sea Level with a reported vertical rate of -22,400 feet per minute.
