The swearing-in ceremony for Gilgit-Baltistan’s Chief Minister-elect, Advocate Amjad Hussain, is set for Monday after being postponed from its original July 1 date. The delay occurred as PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari travelled to Iran to attend the funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Mr. Bhutto-Zardari arrived in Skardu on Sunday after returning from Tehran and then proceeded to Gilgit. GB Governor Syed Mehdi Shah is scheduled to administer the oath of office to Mr. Hussain at Chinar Bagh. Before the ceremony, the PPP chairman is also expected to attend a memorial for the martyrs of the Gilgit-Baltistan War of Independence and address the gathering.

During his visit, Mr. Bhutto-Zardari will also finalise the composition of the new GB cabinet. According to reports, the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP), which supported the PPP’s candidate, will be allocated three ministries. The PML-N, which also backed the PPP, is set to receive the posts of deputy speaker and opposition leader in the GB Assembly, in addition to the governorship, as part of a power-sharing agreement.

In a separate development, the GB Supreme Appellate Court has ordered re-polling at the Loshi Polling Station in the GBA-15 Diamer constituency.

The oath-taking ceremony for the newly elected Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Amjad Hussain Advocate, is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday at Chinar Bagh in Gilgit.
