عدالت نے مجرم کو ہر مقتول کے قانونی ورثاء کو 500,000 روپے معاوضہ ادا کرنے کا بھی حکم دیا۔ یہ کیس 9 جولائی 2019 کو کراچی کے خیابانِ بخاری کے علاقے میں مرید عباس اور خضر حیات کے ہلاکت خیز فائرنگ سے متعلق ہے۔ واقعے کے بعد، پولیس نے عاطف زمان کو گرفتار کیا اور ان کے اور ان کے بھائی عادل زمان کے خلاف قتل کے الزام میں مقدمہ درج کیا۔
اپنے فیصلے میں، عدالت نے عادل زمان کے لیے مستقل گرفتاری کے وارنٹ بھی جاری کیے، جنہیں عدالت میں پیش نہ ہونے کے بعد پہلے ہی اشتہاری قرار دیا جا چکا تھا۔ قتل کی سزا کے علاوہ، عاطف زمان کو غیر قانونی اسلحہ رکھنے کے ایک علیحدہ کیس میں سات سال قید اور 50,000 روپے جرمانے کی سزا بھی سنائی گئی۔
اس مقدمے کی سماعت ابتدائی طور پر انسداد دہشت گردی عدالت نے کی تھی لیکن اکتوبر 2019 میں سیشنز کورٹ کو منتقل کر دیا گیا تھا جب اے ٹی سی نے فیصلہ دیا تھا کہ یہ کیس اس کے دائرہ اختیار میں نہیں آتا۔

A sessions court in Karachi on Thursday, July 9, 2026, sentenced Atif Zaman to death on two counts for the 2019 murders of TV anchor Mureed Abbas and his business partner, Khizer Hayat. Atif Zaman and his brother, Adil Zaman, were arrested and booked for the killings, which occurred in Karachi’s Khayaban-i-Bukhari area on July 9, 2019. Adil Zaman was later declared an absconder after the Supreme Court’s Karachi registry cancelled his bail. Mureed Abbas was an anchorperson for Bol News. Khizer Hayat also sustained two bullet wounds in the incident and later succumbed to his injuries. The case was transferred from an anti-terrorism court to a sessions court in October 2019, as the former determined the offense did not fall within its jurisdiction.
