AJK Chief Secretary, IG Police Hold Press Conference on Regional Situation

The chairman of the National Assembly’s Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir, Rana Muhammad Qasim Noon, has requested a meeting with Opposition Leader Mahmood Khan Achakzai to discuss the ongoing situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The request comes amid continued disagreements between the regional administration and the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).

A key point of contention is the JAAC’s demand to abolish the 12 assembly seats reserved for refugees. In a letter, Noon stated that the meeting would focus on developing a coordinated national strategy on the Kashmir issue. A spokesperson for Achakzai’s party indicated that the opposition leader would consult with allied parties before deciding on the meeting.
