Trump in ‘excellent health’ but advised to lose weight, doctor says
United States President Donald Trump remains in “excellent health” and is “fully fit” to carry out his duties, but has been advised to lose weight, according to a memo from his doctor released Friday after a routine medical examination.
The three-page memo from US Navy Captain Sean Barbabella provided an overview of the 79-year-old president’s physical exam at Walter Reed Medical Hospital. It noted strong cardiac, pulmonary, and neurological function.
The doctor provided preventative counseling, including guidance on diet, increased physical activity, continued weight loss, and taking a low-dose aspirin for cardiac prevention. The president’s weight was recorded at 238 pounds (108 kg), an increase from 224 pounds last year. He is six feet three inches tall.
The memo also addressed recent speculation about the president’s health, describing bruising on his hands as a “common” and “benign” side effect of frequent handshaking while using aspirin. It confirmed his mental status was normal, noting he scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on a mental exam. Shortly after the check-up, Trump posted on his Truth Social platform that the exam went “PERFECTLY”.

A new medical report from the White House has addressed public speculation about President Donald Trump’s health, which arose from images showing bruises on his hands and swelling in his ankles. The president’s physician, Dr. Sean Barbabella, clarified that the marks on his hands were harmless effects on soft tissue from frequent handshaking and that the swelling in his legs had improved.
The memo, issued after the 79-year-old president’s third examination in 13 months at Walter Reed Medical Center, reaffirmed that he remains in excellent overall health and is fully fit to perform his duties. The physician’s advice for the president to increase physical activity, lose weight, and continue taking low-dose aspirin remains unchanged.
