Federal and KP Governments Reach Agreement on Gas Supply

Last Updated: 5 days ago

The federal government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration have successfully negotiated an end to their dispute over natural gas, reaching an agreement to restore supply to the province. Under the new arrangement, the federal government has committed to providing a daily supply of 35 million cubic feet (MMCFD) of gas. This will allow compressed natural gas (CNG) stations across the province to resume operations between 6 AM and 6 PM daily.

The breakthrough decision was formalized in a high-level meeting attended by key federal and provincial figures. Participants included Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Rana Sanaullah, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, and provincial Opposition Leader Dr. Ibad.

Confirming the development, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Finance Advisor, Muzammil Aslam, stated that the federal government had approved the restoration of gas. He credited the efforts of the chief minister for resolving the issue and announced that the supply to CNG stations would commence immediately.

The agreement follows a period of tension initiated by public complaints from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur. However, despite the announced deal, the chief minister has also recently criticized the federal government, accusing it of deliberately blocking the province’s resources and creating resentment by comparing the gas issue to Punjab’s alleged blocking of wheat supplies.
