Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of a young doctor who was shot dead during a robbery near Teen Talwar in Karachi’s Clifton area. Dr. Akash Kumar, a doctor at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), was killed on Monday after robbers intercepted his vehicle and escaped with approximately Rs2 million.
Police reported that Dr. Akash had withdrawn Rs5 million from a private bank on Monday, keeping Rs2 million and Rs3 million in separate envelopes. His vehicle, carrying him, his father, and the cash, was intercepted by four robbers on two motorcycles when they arrived at a second bank. One of the suspects opened the car door and fired at Dr. Akash, who later died after being shifted to the hospital. A case was registered on his father’s complaint under sections 34, 397, and 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code.
On Tuesday night, police pursued a suspicious car in the Defence area and arrested three suspects. Mobile phones and three pistols were seized, and a case was registered for these items. A white Suzuki Alto, allegedly used by the suspects to flee and bearing fake registration plates, was also seized.
During initial interrogation, the suspects confessed their involvement in the doctor’s killing. They revealed that they had monitored the victim before the robbery and had an accomplice inside the first bank who alerted them after Dr. Akash withdrew the cash. This insider informed the gang about the victim’s appearance and the amount withdrawn, enabling them to intercept the vehicle as it headed to the second bank. Police stated that the arrested suspects belong to a gang involved in robberies and street crimes across Karachi and have criminal records.

South Zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asad Raza announced on Wednesday that three suspects allegedly involved in the robbery and fatal shooting of Dr. Akash outside a bank in Karachi’s Frere area have been apprehended. DIG Raza stated that the suspects were arrested within 36 hours of the incident, following a reconstruction of the crime by investigators using extensive evidence. He made this disclosure during a press conference alongside CIA DIG Muqaddas Haider.
According to police, Dr. Akash had arrived at the bank when the suspects, who were already present, initiated the robbery. One of the accused reportedly conducted surveillance and alerted accomplices before the attack. Investigators gathered details within 24 hours and reviewed over 100 CCTV recordings during the probe. Police indicated the suspects used two motorcycles and a car to carry out the robbery. The three arrested suspects were taken into custody from the Defence Police Station jurisdiction, and authorities noted all three belong to the Hindu community. Part of the stolen cash has been recovered, with efforts ongoing to retrieve the remaining amount. Assailants reportedly fled with Rs2.5 million after the shooting.
