A six-year-old boy was found raped and murdered near Karachi’s Lea Market on Wednesday. Police have arrested a 20-year-old suspect, identified as a neighbor of the victim.
The boy’s body was discovered at Punjab Gali near Spencer’s Eye Hospital and subsequently moved to Karachi’s Civil Hospital for legal procedures. Police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed reported that the body was “decomposed” and showed “multiple bone injuries.” Samples have been collected for sexual violence and chemical analysis, with the cause of death currently “reserved.”
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Syed Asad Raza stated that during the initial investigation, the arrested suspect confessed to kidnapping the boy for the purpose of sexual assault. The suspect allegedly kept the body on his rooftop after killing the boy, later throwing it from the third floor into an empty plot on Tuesday night, wrapped in a gunny bag.
Area residents noticed the incident, opened the bag, and discovered the body. They informed the police and apprehended the suspect, beating him before police arrived to take him into custody.
The suspect is a 20-year-old carpenter from Phool Nagar, Lahore, and was a bachelor. The victim was the only son of his parents, who also have four daughters; his family, like the suspect, also hails from Punjab.
Napier police had received information about the boy’s disappearance on July 6, and a first information report (FIR) was registered. Police were later informed about the recovery of the boy’s body late on Tuesday night.
