Fourteen under-trial prisoners escaped from a prison van on Monday after overpowering security guards while being transported from Kahuta to Adiala jail. According to a Rawalpindi Police spokesperson, the incident occurred in the Sihala area, which falls within the jurisdiction of the Sihala police station in Islamabad.

Following the escape, police launched a search operation and have since re-arrested four of the prisoners. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining escapees.

An initial investigation suggests that a violent altercation broke out among the prisoners inside the van before the incident. The spokesperson stated that the escaped individuals are accused in cases currently under trial. An inquiry has been initiated, and strict departmental action has been promised against anyone found responsible for the security lapse.
