Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly members take oath of office
Updated: 2:47 AM PKT — June 23, 2026
Thirty newly elected members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly took their oaths of office on Monday during the inaugural session. The oath was administered by the outgoing speaker, Nazir Ahmed.
The members who were sworn in include 13 from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), nine from the PML-N, six from the Istehkam-i-Pakistan Party (IPP), one from Majlis Wahdat-i-Muslimeen (MWM), and one PTI-backed independent member. Three members from Skardu and Diamer could not take the oath as the official notification for their constituencies is on hold due to court orders. Following the oath-taking, the PPP officially nominated Advocate Amjad Hussain as its candidate for Chief Minister.
