UAE Waives Overstay Fines for Travelers Stranded by Conflict

The United Arab Emirates has announced it will waive overstay fines for individuals unable to leave the country due to the conflict in Iran and subsequent airspace closures. The move was described by authorities as a humanitarian gesture to provide relief for those stranded.

A 30-day grace period has been granted, allowing affected travelers to regularize their visa status without penalty until July 9. The exemption is effective from June 10 to July 9.

The facility is available to individuals on tourist or visit visas, as well as those who had cancelled their residency visas but were unable to depart. The special measure aims to provide additional time for those impacted by the disruption to make necessary arrangements.

The United Arab Emirates has broadened its previously announced grace period into a general amnesty scheme for all foreign nationals in violation of visa and immigration laws. The scheme, running from June 10 to July 9, allows individuals with expired visas or those residing illegally to either regularize their status without fines or return to their home countries without facing legal action.

Pakistan’s Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment has confirmed the amnesty and is urging Pakistani citizens residing illegally in the UAE to take full advantage of this “golden opportunity.” The bureau has advised affected individuals to contact the relevant UAE authorities to either renew their documents or arrange for their legal departure.
