ISPR Pays Tribute to UN Peacekeepers on International Peacekeeping Day

On the International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2026, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) paid tribute to Pakistan’s extensive contributions to global peace, saluting the nation’s “Blue Helmets.” It was noted that since 1960, over 237,000 Pakistanis have served in UN missions, with 183 personnel having sacrificed their lives.

Currently, Pakistani peacekeepers are deployed in countries including Congo, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic, where they are involved in both military operations and humanitarian aid. Acknowledging modern challenges such as cyber threats and climate change, the ISPR highlighted the 2026 theme, “Invest in Peace,” and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fostering global peace and stability under the UN banner.

President Asif Ali Zardari paid tribute to UN peacekeepers, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to global peace efforts. In his message on the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, he noted that over 270,000 Pakistanis have served in 48 UN missions, with 183 martyred. The President highlighted the increasingly important role of Pakistani women peacekeepers.

He also underscored Pakistan’s position as host to one of the oldest UN missions, the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), linking its presence to the need for a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with UN Security Council resolutions.
