In a significant de-escalation, United States President Donald Trump has announced the end of the naval blockade at the Strait of Hormuz, ordering the strategic waterway to be opened for maritime traffic immediately and without hindrance. In a statement, Trump said ships trapped in the strait could begin their “journey home.”

The president stipulated that Iran must agree to never possess nuclear weapons. He also stated that US underwater minesweepers have cleared numerous mines and that Iran is expected to remove the remainder. Additionally, Trump announced a plan to extract and destroy “nuclear dust” from a previous US bomber strike, a task he said would be done in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
