Punjab government intensifies waste management and cleanup operations for Eid

Punjab has distributed 12 million eco-friendly waste bags for Eid cleanup. Suthra Punjab and Daewoo Waste Management are on a successful mission to keep Punjab clean, with waste collection operations accelerated after Qurbani.

The Punjab government has utilised drone technology for the first time as part of its large-scale sanitation operation for Eid-ul-Adha. According to a spokesperson for the ‘Suthra Punjab’ campaign, over 110,000 tons of offal and animal remains were collected and disposed of across the province during the first two days of Eid, with more than 17,000 tons collected from Lahore alone. Punjab Information Minister Azma Bukhari stated that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is personally monitoring the operation, which involves 184,000 sanitation workers. Following the collection of waste, streets and neighbourhoods are being washed with rose water.

Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has ordered authorities to take strict action against individuals improperly disposing of sacrificial animal remains on roads and in open spaces. During a visit to a solid waste collection camp in Baldia Town on Thursday, the mayor acknowledged that some complaints had been received.

He assured citizens that municipal teams are actively working on the ground to resolve issues promptly and warned that anyone found spoiling the city’s environment during the Eid cleanup operation will be dealt with severely.
