On Youm-e-Takbeer, President Asif Ali Zardari reiterated that Pakistan is a responsible and peace-loving nuclear state whose defense strategy guarantees regional stability. He stated that while Pakistan holds no aggressive intentions, it will deliver an immediate and robust response to any aggression. The day commemorates the 1998 nuclear tests in Chagai, which were conducted in response to India’s tests and established the country’s strategic autonomy.

Since 1998, Pakistan has developed a layered deterrence architecture built on a diverse and expanding missile force. The country’s strategic capability is centered on a road-mobile fleet for survivability, which includes short-range tactical systems like the Nasr (Hatf-9), medium-range ballistic missiles such as the Shaheen-II, and the long-range Shaheen-III, capable of reaching the entirety of mainland India. Pakistan is also developing the Ababeel system, believed to feature MIRV technology, alongside a sophisticated cruise missile inventory including the Babur and Ra’ad series.
