Eid Prayer Gatherings Across Pakistan

Muslims across the globe are celebrating Eid ul Adha, the feast of sacrifice, which marks the culmination of the annual Hajj pilgrimage and commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. This year’s festivities, however, are taking place under the shadow of the US-Iran war in the Middle East.

From Cairo to Jakarta, worshippers gathered for mass prayers in mosques and public grounds. In cities like Beirut and Sanaa, families observed traditions by visiting the graves of loved ones, while Palestinians marked the occasion with prayers in Gaza and at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque compound. The celebrations were seen worldwide, with large congregations also reported in Albania, Qatar, Dubai, and Malaysia.

President Asif Ali Zardari offered Eid prayers at Zardari House in Nawabshah, while Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif performed prayers in Lahore, joined by former Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shehbaz. Across the provinces, top officials joined the public for Eid congregations.

Punjab Governor Sardar Salim Haider Khan prayed in his native village in Attock, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi joined citizens for prayers in Peshawar. KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi offered prayers at Kundi Model Farm, and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti prayed in Quetta. Special prayers were offered at gatherings nationwide for the country’s security, unity, and prosperity.

Eid ul Adha is being celebrated across Pakistan with religious fervor on Monday. Thousands of congregations for Eid prayers were held in cities and towns, including Karachi, where special prayers were offered for the security, progress, and prosperity of the country and the Muslim Ummah.

Following the prayers, Muslims began performing the ritual of animal sacrifice in observance of Sunnat-e-Ibrahimi. The festival is also being celebrated today in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and other Gulf states.

This year’s Eid ul Adha is being observed as conflicts continue to affect large parts of the Muslim world, including in Gaza, Sudan, and Yemen, casting a shadow of grief and hardship over the festival for many.

In Pakistan, while communities come together amidst economic strain, concerns have been raised over civic responsibility during the sacrificial rites. A recurring issue is the improper disposal of animal remains, which creates health and environmental hazards. The Pakistan Air Force has issued a specific warning, urging citizens to ensure proper waste disposal to prevent birds from being attracted to flight paths, which poses a serious risk of bird strikes to aircraft.
