An intense heatwave is expected across Sindh during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays, with temperatures forecast to be 4°C to 6°C above normal. Prevailing continental air is contributing to the hot and dry conditions. Daytime temperatures in central and upper Sindh districts, including Sukkur, Jacobabad, and Larkana, are likely to surge to between 47°C and 50°C. Jacobabad recently recorded a peak of 50°C.

In Karachi, temperatures are expected to range from 35°C to 37°C, while Hyderabad may experience highs of 41°C to 44°C. Health experts advise citizens to avoid direct sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., stay hydrated, and wear light clothing to prevent heat-related illnesses.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued detailed guidelines to government departments to mitigate the effects of the severe heatwave expected during the Eid-ul-Azha holidays. District administrations have been instructed to ensure the availability of cold drinking water and shaded areas in public places, particularly at Eidgahs and cattle markets.

The health department is directed to activate heatwave response counters in hospitals, ensure the availability of medicines, and operate mobile health units. Veterinary centres in animal markets will remain operational around the clock with adequate water supplies. An extensive awareness campaign will be launched through various media, while farmers are being advised on protecting crops from the extreme heat.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a severe heatwave alert for the province during the Eid ul Azha holidays, with temperatures expected to be 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal. Temperatures in districts like Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, and Bahawalpur could reach as high as 50°C, while cities including Lahore and Rawalpindi may see temperatures of up to 42°C.

The PDMA has advised the public to take precautionary measures, including avoiding unnecessary sun exposure between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., staying hydrated, and wearing light-colored clothing. Special precautions have been urged for butchers, cattle traders, and sanitation workers active during Eid. An emergency helpline, 1129, has also been made available.
