PTI Leaders Protest Denied Meetings with Jailed Founder

A senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader has called for a national dialogue to end the country’s political deadlock, asserting that economic development is impossible without political stability. Barrister Saif, Advisor on Information to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, announced that the National Dialogue Committee will hold a key event in Karachi to bring all political forces together. He stated that the public is disillusioned with traditional politics and that the younger generation requires better leadership and a clear vision.

In a statement from Peshawar, Saif argued that both the government and the current opposition have failed to play their roles effectively, creating a need for alternative leadership. He said the dialogue committee’s goal is to achieve a national consensus, adding that the solution to national problems lies in negotiations and political harmony. He urged for personal and political differences to be set aside in the public interest.

This call for broader political engagement comes as the PTI confronts a series of significant administrative and legal hurdles. The Azad Kashmir Election Commission recently rejected the party’s registration application, citing financial and accounting irregularities. According to a notification, the PTI failed to meet the requirements of Rule 121, a violation that an audit officer’s report reportedly upheld. The commission noted that party representatives were given a full hearing before the decision was made.

Meanwhile, the party’s leadership continues to voice concerns over the incarceration of its founder, raising the issue in the National Assembly. MNA Asad Qaiser demanded the founder be transferred to a hospital for proper medical care, while Barrister Gohar described the denial of meetings as “regrettable.” Separately, PTI leader Aliya Hamza has petitioned the Lahore High Court to suspend her five-year sentence in a May 9 case, arguing that the trial court did not properly review the facts of the case.

Her application contends that the trial court did not properly review the facts of the case. The plea further argues that the petitioner has never misused bail and requests the court to suspend the sentence until a final decision is reached on her appeal against the conviction.
