Gilgit-Baltistan Prepares for Prince Rahim Aga Khan’s Official Visit
GILGIT: Extensive preparations are underway across Gilgit-Baltistan for the official visit of Prince Rahim Aga Khan V, the spiritual leader of the Ismaili community, scheduled from May 21 to 25.
Prince Rahim will be accorded the status of a state guest during his tour, where he is expected to visit several areas, attend public gatherings, and address various ceremonies. A high-level meeting was held on Friday, chaired by Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Amir Muqam, to review the arrangements.
Officials anticipate large crowds at events planned in the Passu Cones area of Hunza, Gilgit City, Gahkuch Bala, and Taus Yasin. To manage the expected attendance, the administration is considering holding multiple sessions at some venues. Significant security and logistical measures are being put in place to ensure the visit proceeds smoothly.
A request has been made to the federal government for a bulletproof vehicle. Authorities have also been directed to immediately open Babusar Road as an alternative travel route and to keep the National Highway Authority on high alert at sensitive points along the Karakoram Highway. Police and the Frontier Works Organisation have been tasked with road improvements and ensuring security from Nasirabad Bridge to Sost Dry Port.
Additional directives include ensuring an uninterrupted power supply in Upper Hunza and arranging extra transport for visitors. Representatives from the Ismaili Regional Council attended the review meeting and expressed their satisfaction with the preparations, while Minister Muqam assured them of the federal government’s full cooperation.
