Widespread Rain Continues as Westerly System Grips Pakistan, Met Office Issues Warning

The westerly weather system continues to bring rain and cool weather to various parts of Pakistan. Following heavy morning showers in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the weather has turned notably cold in the twin cities.

In Lahore, the sky is overcast with cool winds, but no significant rainfall is forecast for the city. The current temperature in Lahore was recorded at 28°C.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has extended its forecast for more rain with strong winds and thunderstorms to include parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. The department has also issued a warning about potential damage to weak infrastructure due to the weather conditions.

The ongoing spell of rain has brought significant precipitation to various parts of the country, with Rawalpindi recording up to 36mm at Chaklala and Islamabad receiving 32mm at Bokra. The downpour caused the water level in Rawalpindi's Nala Lai to rise to eight feet at the Katarian point before receding as the rain subsided.

In addition to urban flooding, the weather system led to power outages in several areas as electrical feeders tripped. Reports also indicate that hail fell in Parachinar, Kurram, and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Meteorological Department has forecast that more rain is expected in the coming days.
