JI Karachi chief Monem Zafar, while visiting camps in District Central, stated that the government collected Rs1,567 billion under the petroleum levy during the last fiscal year. He claimed that every citizen using petrol pays Rs130 per litre in taxes, including Rs85 as a petroleum levy, and called for its complete abolition.
Zafar added that Karachiites are already facing multiple issues, including inflation and poor infrastructure, and the additional burden of the levy is aggravating their difficulties. He also noted that a difference of Rs7.60 had emerged in K-Electric’s basic tariff following a recent NEPRA decision.
