A case has been registered against the family of the victim in the ongoing investigation into a violent scuffle in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA). The development comes as police also issued a clarification regarding the identity of the personnel seen in the viral CCTV footage of the incident.
In an update to the investigation into a viral video of a scuffle in Karachi's Defence Housing Authority (DHA), police have dropped charges of snatching and theft from the First Information Report (FIR) registered in the case. According to the investigative police, the challan (charge sheet) for the case has not yet been submitted.
Meanwhile, a second video of the incident has surfaced, showing the victim, identified as Noor-ul-Ain, in an injured and frightened state with blood reportedly coming from her nose and mouth.
Officials have reiterated that the inquiry is ongoing and any police personnel found to have shown bias will face action. Reports suggest a plainclothes individual seen in the original CCTV footage is allegedly a Korangi police officer, who will be questioned as part of the probe.
Further details have emerged regarding the legal proceedings following the incident. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Darakhshan police station on August 21, based on a complaint from the woman seen with the dumbbell in the video.
In her complaint, she alleged that a man, his sister, and their mother from a neighbouring apartment initiated the conflict over a parking issue. She claimed they came to her door, kicked it, and then assaulted her and her family after she opened it. The FIR against the victim's family includes sections of the Pakistan Penal Code related to assault with intent to outrage modesty (354), criminal intimidation (506), and theft after preparation for causing harm (382), among others.
SSP Korangi has issued a clarification regarding the viral video of a woman assaulting her neighbour in Karachi's Defence area, denying any relationship with the woman involved in the incident.
Reports have identified the woman seen assaulting her neighbours in a viral video from Karachi's Defence area as a relative of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Fida Hussain. The new information clarifies that the victims of the assault were siblings.
DIG South Asad Raza has ordered an inquiry into the incident after videos of the altercation went viral on social media, police confirmed on Saturday.
According to officials, SSP Investigation South Touheedur Rehman has been assigned to lead the probe, which will examine both the circumstances of the dispute and the subsequent registration of a case. Police sources indicated that the case challan has not yet been submitted and that sections related to snatching and theft have reportedly been removed from the case. The DIG stated that if any bias or irregularity is established, action will be taken against those responsible, including any police personnel found to be involved.
