Story so far
The government has launched a digital 'proof of life' system to streamline verification for pensioners. The system, developed by NADRA, uses biometric and facial recognition, allowing pensioners to complete the process from home. Following the initial launch by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, NADRA has made the service free and expanded access points across the country, including a mobile app and thousands of service locations.
Latest development
NADRA has expanded access to its free Proof of Life Certificate service for pensioners. The verification can now be done through the PakID mobile app, over 5,000 e-Sahulat franchises, 988 NADRA centres, and 500 union councils. Mobile registration services are also available for those with limited mobility.
Latest updates
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has expanded access to the free Proof of Life Certificate (PoLC) for pensioners through multiple new channels across the country.
According to NADRA, the service is now available via the PakID mobile application, allowing pensioners or their immediate family members to obtain the certificate digitally from home. For those who prefer assisted services, the certificate can be obtained free of charge at more than 5,000 e-Sahulat franchises, 988 NADRA Registration Centres, and 500 Union Councils, where pensioners receive preferential service.
For pensioners with limited mobility, NADRA is also offering the service through mobile registration vans, biker services, and ManPack registration units.
The initiative is part of a wider reform that includes the establishment of a National Pensioners Register. NADRA will also provide daily digital notifications to pension controllers regarding any reported deaths of pensioners to ensure the system remains up to date.
The new system, developed with the support of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), utilizes biometric and facial verification to allow pensioners to complete the process from their homes. This is intended to spare them the need to visit banks every six months.
During the launch ceremony, it was noted that NADRA provided the application and verification system free of charge. The prime minister extended his congratulations to Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, NADRA Chairman Muhammad Munir Afsar, and Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal for their roles in the initiative.
Speaking at the event, Finance Minister Aurangzeb highlighted that the system is part of the country's move towards a "Digital Pakistan."
