Google Officials Meet PM, Vow to Expand Programs in Pakistan

Following the formal inauguration of its Pakistan office, a nine-member Google delegation led by Vice President for Government Affairs and Public Policy, Wilson White, met with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad. US Chargé d'Affaires Natalie Baker also attended the meeting.

During the discussion, the Prime Minister highlighted the ongoing digitalization of government functions and the economy. Mr. White stated that Google recognizes the talent of Pakistani youth and is keen to expand its programs in the country.

Separately, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja noted that Google has distributed 350,000 certificates in Pakistan in recent years, adding that the company's increased presence will create new employment opportunities.

Google has appointed Fasieh Mehta as the first head of its Pakistan mission, following the formal opening of its office in Islamabad on August 18.

Mr. Mehta, a Pakistani professional with experience at Epic Games and Devsinc, has been a prominent advocate for the country's technology and developer community. His work has focused on promoting local talent and connecting startups and creators with international markets.

Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja congratulated Mr. Mehta on his appointment. As head of Google's Pakistan mission, he is expected to shape the company's local engagement, support developers, and help connect the Pakistani tech industry with Google's global platforms.

In a related development, Shaza Fatima has described the opening of Google's office as a major milestone for Pakistan's tech sector and its youth.
