Bangladesh Protests Erupt Over Sheikh Hasina’s Speech

Protests have erupted across Bangladesh following former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's virtual address from New Delhi.

The ancestral home of former Bangladeshi cricket team captain Shakib Al Hasan was attacked with petrol bombs, and its windows were broken by angry individuals. The incident, which also caused a fire on the upper floor of the residence, occurred in Magura, approximately 170 kilometers southwest of Dhaka, on Wednesday. Police confirmed that no one was present in the house at the time of the attack, and no casualties were reported. The attack followed Shakib Al Hasan's participation in a virtual event organized by the Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia in New Delhi, where former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina delivered an address and announced her intention to return to Bangladesh in December. Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry has strongly condemned Sheikh Hasina's media interaction, describing it as an insult to the country's sovereignty and warning that allowing such an address from India could harm bilateral relations.
