Federal Government Hikes Petrol, Diesel Prices for July 22

The federal government announced on Tuesday, July 22, an increase in the prices of petrol and high-speed diesel. This revision was confirmed through a notification issued by the Ministry of Petroleum.

Petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan have seen a significant increase. Petrol has become more expensive by Rs. 4.93 per liter, while high-speed diesel prices have risen by Rs. 7.15 per liter.

Following these revisions, the new price for petrol is now Rs. 320.93 per liter. High-speed diesel is now priced at Rs. 320.21 per liter.

Pakistan has begun exploring alternative sources for crude oil imports following threats of a possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz and an announcement by the Houthis restricting the transportation of Saudi oil through the Bab al-Mandab route. Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Ali Pervaiz Malik convened an emergency meeting with chief executive officers and managing directors of Pakistan’s oil refineries, directing them to immediately identify alternative import sources to ensure an uninterrupted supply of crude oil. Refineries have since initiated contacts with international trading companies to assess availability from countries including the United States, Singapore, Nigeria, and Central Asian nations.
