Gwadar Port Completes First Commercial Bunkering Operation

Gwadar Port has successfully completed its first commercial bunkering operation, marking a significant expansion of its maritime services. The refuelling operation, conducted between July 9 and 11, involved the LNG carrier Enugu, which received 2,500 metric tonnes of very low sulphur fuel oil. This collaborative effort included the Gwadar Port Authority, National Logistics Cell, Gwadar International Terminals Limited, and Vitol Asia. The bunker barge Marine Ista carried out the refuelling of the 285.4-meter-long vessel. Pakistan Customs, port authorities, and local shipping agent Pak Traders Gwadar ensured the safe and efficient completion of the process.

This development enables Gwadar Port to provide bunkering and other marine services to international vessels, alongside its existing cargo handling capabilities. Experts anticipate this will generate new opportunities for foreign exchange earnings and revenue, enhancing the port's appeal to international shipping services. This initiative aligns with the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) vision to establish Gwadar as a key regional trade and energy hub, with expectations for increased international vessel traffic and a boost to Pakistan’s blue economy, logistics, marine services, and local employment.
