Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday announced an intensified counterterrorism operation in Balochistan. The announcement followed a meeting of the provincial apex committee in Quetta, chaired by the Prime Minister and attended by Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Governor Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, senior military and law enforcement officials, and federal cabinet members.

PM Sharif stated that the federal government, military leadership, and the Balochistan administration reached a consensus on stepping up operations against militant groups, deploying all available resources to restore peace across the province and the country. He pledged that military and intelligence-led operations would continue until militant groups are dismantled and stability is restored. Security forces recently killed 54 militants in a series of operations.

The Prime Minister also alleged that militant organizations operating against Pakistan are receiving financial and military support from hostile external actors, specifically accusing India.
