Law enforcement agencies across the United States, Canada, and Europe have made 24 arrests, including 11 in California, as part of “Operation Hard Ball.” This operation targeted three India-based transnational organized crime groups, notably the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The groups face charges for a range of criminal acts, including racketeering, targeted killings, shootings, extortion, and the trafficking of large quantities of narcotics across international borders. Among the charges is the assassination of a prominent Indian political and religious figure in Canada in 2023.

In total, 37 defendants have been charged across three indictments. Two of these defendants reportedly ran their global criminal syndicates while imprisoned in India. Arrests in the US include 11 in California, one in Indiana, and one in Georgia. Additionally, three defendants were arrested in Canada and one in Spain, with seven others already in custody. Authorities are currently seeking 10 fugitives, seven in the United States, two in India, and one in Europe.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement seized approximately 1,000 kilograms of cocaine, one kilogram of heroin, $40,000 in cash, and a dozen firearms. Twenty-three search warrants were executed in the Sacramento area and 11 in the Los Angeles area.
