Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have announced targeting US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait on Wednesday, in retaliation for a wave of US strikes on Iran. This action follows attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz, further jeopardizing a fragile ceasefire.
The Revolutionary Guards claimed to have carried out a joint missile and drone operation against key US military sites, specifically mentioning Bandar Salman in Bahrain’s Fifth Naval District and Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. They also stated that a US MQ-9 drone attempting to interfere in the operation was shot down.
Air raid sirens were heard in Bahrain and Kuwait, with the Kuwaiti army confirming that its air defenses were confronting “hostile” missile and drone attacks. The US military has not yet commented on these latest strikes.
Earlier, the United States had launched fresh military strikes on Iran and revoked a license permitting Iran to sell oil. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that more than 60 small boats of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps were among the targets hit during its operations, which were intended to impose a heavy cost on Iran for violating the ceasefire.
CENTCOM described Iran’s actions as “unwarranted aggression,” a “dangerous violation of the ceasefire,” and an act that undermines freedom of navigation. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, speaking before a summit in Ankara, stated that the new US attacks on Iran were “absolutely necessary.”
