Pakistan Air Force Group Captain Asim Tariq, who sacrificed his life while saving a woman in distress, was laid to rest with full military honours. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that funeral prayers for the group captain were held, and he was buried in recognition of his exceptional courage and devotion to duty.
Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu, along with senior officers and a large number of civilians, attended the funeral prayers and paid their respects. The ISPR quoted ACM Sidhu as saying that the sacrifice epitomizes the finest traditions of the PAF and the Armed Forces of Pakistan, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to safeguarding the nation's frontiers and protecting the lives and dignity of fellow countrymen.
The incident occurred near Air University in Islamabad. Group Captain Tariq intervened when he witnessed a man forcefully pulling a woman towards his bike. The suspect subsequently opened fire on the officer. The suspect was arrested within nine hours of the incident.
