The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday issued a detailed forecast predicting rain, wind, and thunderstorms across many parts of the country from Monday night until Wednesday, with the notable exception of Sindh. The weather system is being driven by moist currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, along with a westerly wave expected to approach the upper parts of the country.
The PMD warned of potential urban flooding in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The forecast includes the following details:
- Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan: Scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected in Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, and other parts of Kashmir from Monday night to Wednesday. Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to see similar weather on Tuesday and Wednesday.
- Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Scattered rain with isolated heavy falls are forecast for areas including Dir, Swat, Chitral, Peshawar, and Mardan from Monday night to Wednesday. Waziristan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan are expected to receive rain starting Tuesday.
- Punjab and Islamabad: The capital, along with Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and other central and northern districts, can expect scattered rain and isolated heavy rainfall from Monday night to Wednesday. Southern Punjab regions like Multan, Bahawalpur, and Dera Ghazi Khan are forecast to experience these conditions from Tuesday.
