Pakistan and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) have agreed to deepen their cooperation in maritime reforms, ship recycling, blue economy development, and environmental protection.

The agreement was reached during a meeting in Istanbul between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez. Minister Chaudhry briefed the Secretary-General on the Pakistani government’s initiatives to modernise ports, attract investment in the maritime sector, and develop the blue economy.

The minister also highlighted environmentally friendly measures, including mangrove plantations along the coast, which the IMO chief praised as a “positive and commendable initiative.”

Mr. Dominguez appreciated the recent progress in Pakistan’s maritime sector and expressed his intention to visit the country soon to further advance collaboration and review ongoing projects. Both sides affirmed their commitment to strengthening the partnership between Pakistan and the IMO.
