JI Chief Urges Dialogue to Resolve AJK Crisis, Warns Against Force
Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman stated on Monday that meaningful negotiations are the only solution to the ongoing situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). During a press conference in Islamabad, he urged the government to avoid the use of force and to engage with the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).
Rehman said that JI has accepted the role of mediator to restore trust between the government and the committee, aiming to prevent “bloodshed and unrest.” He added that the JAAC has expressed complete confidence in the party and postponed its long march, which he described as a “positive message.”
The JI chief called on the government to negotiate seriously to resolve the “legitimate demands of the people.” He also warned that the situation in AJK should not be allowed to reach a point where it could be exploited for propaganda against Pakistan and the Kashmir cause.
Rehman rejected the impression that the situation had reached a “point of no return,” stating that dialogue is still possible. The JAAC was declared a proscribed organisation by the AJK government on June 5 and placed under the region’s anti-terrorism act.
