Wife of Martyred Navy Officer Lt Cdr Hamza Joins Pakistan Army

Alveera Hamza, the widow of martyred Lieutenant Commander Hamza Abid, has been commissioned as an officer in the Pakistan Navy, correcting previous reports that she had joined the army.

She graduated from the Pakistan Naval Academy, where she was awarded the Commandant’s Gold Medal for her performance and has joined the IT branch.

In a statement, she said the martyrdom of her husband was the driving force behind her decision. “Wearing the same uniform he proudly wore and standing where he once stood is one of the proudest moments of my life, for me and for our daughter,” she stated.

She described her time at the academy as a “life-changing experience” and encouraged other young women in Pakistan to consider careers in the armed forces.
