Security Forces Kill 29 Terrorists in Operations Along Pak-Afghan Border

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces have killed 29 terrorists in a series of operations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar announced on Sunday night. The actions included a “well planned intelligence based ground operation” and subsequent “calibrated strikes” against the hideouts of Jamaatul Ahrar and the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which the state refers to as Fitna al Khwarij.

The minister stated that the kinetic action was a response to “recent multiple terrorist incidents inside Pakistan against the innocent people of Khyber Pakthunkhwa, Balochistan and Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) Camp, Karachi.”

On Saturday night, an attack on a Pakistan Rangers Sindh local headquarters in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar resulted in the martyrdom of three security personnel. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the attack was carried out by terrorists from Jamaatul Ahrar. In the retaliatory action, three terrorists were killed and one was arrested.

According to security sources, the arrested individual identified himself as Usman Ali and revealed he had arrived in Pakistan from Jalalabad, Afghanistan, about a week ago.

In a separate statement, Minister Tarar detailed a specific ground operation on June 28 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur District. He said that a high-value commander, Khan Farosh, also known as Zabal, was killed along with three other terrorists from Jamaatul Ahrar.

The minister added that in continuation of “Operation Ghazb Lil Haq,” precise targeting of terrorist camps was also carried out on the night of June 28-29 in the border region, including three targets in Afghanistan’s Paktia and Paktika provinces.

The Afghan Taliban government has responded to the operations, accusing Pakistan of conducting air strikes on civilian areas. A Taliban spokesperson described the actions as ‘cowardly’ and ‘brutal,’ claiming that dozens of civilians, including women and children, were killed and injured in the provinces of Paktika, Paktia, and Kunar.

The claim has not yet been independently confirmed. Pakistan’s Information Minister had earlier stated the operations on Sunday night successfully targeted three locations linked to Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan. A separate ground operation was also conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bajaur district, where security forces killed three militants, including a commander identified as Khan Farosh.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday released further details of the recent security operations, stating they were conducted under Operation ‘Ghadab lil Haq’.

According to the military’s media wing, an intelligence-based operation in Bajaur resulted in the elimination of four terrorists. These included high-value commander Khan Farosh, also known as Zabal, and three other members of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar.

Furthermore, successful operations in Afghanistan’s Paktia, Paktika, and Kunar provinces targeted hideouts of Jamaat-ul-Ahrar and the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). These strikes killed 25 terrorists, destroyed three terrorist centres, and eliminated weapons and ammunition depots. An unspecified number of terrorists were also reported injured.
