The United States is reportedly considering relocating parts of its military footprint in the Middle East after recent Iranian missile and drone strikes exposed vulnerabilities at its bases. Media reports on June 29 indicated that Washington may move some military assets further west, with Israel being considered as a potential location.
The strikes are said to have killed 13 US service members and wounded hundreds, although a comprehensive official account of casualties and damage has not been released. Assessments cited in reports place the total damage at an estimated $5 billion across 11 American military installations.
Among the most significantly affected sites was the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain, where damage to the main building, barracks, and other facilities is estimated at $400 million. US officials are reportedly considering options such as moving command centres underground, reinforcing facilities, or not rebuilding some damaged structures.
