During a heated session of the Punjab Assembly marked by sloganeering, Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb provided details on the provincial government’s performance.

Ms. Aurangzeb stated that of the government’s 437 development schemes, more than 340 have received approval. She added that for the first time, schemes previously left out will be included in Planning and Development before July 30. The minister reported that Rs 10 billion were spent in the environment sector and Rs 18.4 billion in the fisheries sector, with a total of Rs 1,159 billion spent from the development budget to date.

On environmental initiatives, she said the government has taken year-round measures to combat smog, increasing the number of super seeders available to farmers from 300 to 8,000. She also noted that the environment department’s force now comprises approximately 1,000 personnel.

Updating on Muharram security, Ms. Aurangzeb said over 100,000 personnel were deployed across the province.
